Re: id 6 pence coin
They took the silver out in either '46 or '47, so it's Cu-Ni

Well here is what i know about British silver coin's, Since 1582, British silver coins have been composed of .925 fine silver, 925 parts silver per 1000, the balance being copper ,This standard was maintained until 1919. In 1920, most British silver coins, the halfcrown, florin, and shilling, were debased to .500 fine silver, that is 50% silver, and 50% copper. From 1920 onwards, all British "silver" coins, were produced in .500 fine silver, that is 50% silver, alloyed with 50% copper, so that from 1921 to 1946 they were all .500 fine silver. You will be lucky if you do find a silver 1947 coin. This link is not bad, the link CJul posted is a good one. http://www.predecimal.com/britishcoi...tification.htm |
